I received this disc sort of second hand from one of our staff members. He never said too much about what was on it and so I slapped it into my player with more than a little trepidation. I’m still not sure what I was expecting, but what I got was one of the most unique and innovative discs it has been my pleasure to hear. While basically a one man project by artist Matthew G Davidson, the music here is a multi-layered extravaganza of sound and tone. Crafting full choirs from multiple recordings of his voice backed with an almost world beat rhythm section. Davidson has created a texturallu complex pastiche of influences all structured in a Mass-like format. I can guarantee that this disc is like nothing you’ve ever heard: creative, imaginative, inventive, original and innovative are all words that can be used to describe the music of Matthew Davidson While not being particularly dark in tone, Blue Forest Mass is, however, music for the ears and for the soul. Each track is sung in Latin and most of this disc’s sentiments are of a religious nature, but that shouldn’t put any listener off. This is good stuff, people.
