Fourths Tuning for Guitar
If you would like to try out some of the techniques I describe, but do not currently play Warr Guitar or Stick, you can try tuning your guitar in fourths by raising the pitch of the highest two strings a half step.

F high (was E)
C (was B)
G
D
A
E low

Because the C and E strings are only tuned up a half step, most guitars can use this tuning without modification. The Guitar Craft new standard tuning is tuned in fifths except the highest string which is a third up from the previous string. The wider tuning places more stress on the guitar and makes intervals across strings wider. Because the tuning interval is not consistent from string to string, chord and scale patterns are not transposable in the same way a strict fourths tuning is.

Guitar can be played touchstyle with the addition of a removable open string mute. You can make your own mute out of fuzzy side of velcro or small weave non-slip pad like those found on Warr guitars. Weaving the open string mute between the first fret and the nut provides adequate dampening for pulling off notes. Try touchstyle without the mute and you'll understand what I'm talking about.

You can still enjoy the fourths tuning without playing touchstyle by finger picking notes the way you normally would.
